LAS VEGAS (Jan. 17, 2012) – This fast paced conference is focused on solid operational, sales, and marketing content with immediate takeaways for private duty agencies. Held at the Bellagio from Jan. 23-25, 2012, PDHCA is offering a new expanded and intensive format and a great lineup of expert speakers, including Lance Secretan and Paul Kusserow.

Lance Secretan wants to change lives by taking leadership to new heights. As an award-winning author and corporate advisor, he shows the link between high performance and high ideals. Paul Kusserow is a senior vice president and chief strategy and corporate development officer at Humana. He is at the forefront of change in the health care industry.

“With some new additions based on attendee feedback from prior years, this year’s conference promises immediate returns to attendees, with both pre-conference and post-conference intensive workshops focused on operations and sales,” said Merrily Orsini, Chief Strategic Officer for the Private Duty Homecare Association. “Operations Toolbox: Nuts & Bolts of Building Systems & Sustaining Profitability” is one of the pre-conference intensive workshops being offered. “Focus on Sales: Using Individual Talents to Achieve Best Results” closes the conference. Takeaways from both of those intensives will ensure attendees can implement new ideas and make suggested improvements immediately upon returning to the office.

The most popular offering from past years, our Birds-of-a-Feather Roundtables, is moving inside the conference and expanding to accommodate more attendees. The roundtables cover 15 areas, such as adding private duty to an existing home health care agency, starting a private duty agency from scratch, the ethics of in-home care, using long-term care insurance as a payment option, using CRM as a marketing tool, and concrete ideas for grassroots legislative efforts, to name but a few. With a wide range of topics, the roundtables offer an outstanding value for those who attend.

For the first time at a PDHCA conference, the opening session includes a panel of actual referral sources who are willing to “tell all” regarding their criteria for making a referral to an agency. With private duty services poised to be the growth segment for the future of this industry, this conference is important to equip agencies to address the needs of older Americans.

The great gift of all the advances in medicine and technology we have accomplished is that, humans can now live longer than ever, but we have seen along with this a ballooning of chronic illness. “Ensuring the right to be cared for in our homes is America’s last great civil rights battle,” said Val J. Halamandaris, President of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice. “The care of the disabled and elderly may well be the defining issue for America in the early years of this 21st century. Home care may well be the most non-partisan issue that will be faced in the coming years and one which will have the most immediate impact on the future of America.”

The annual meeting comes at a time when $12 billion in Medicare cuts to the industry are already planned over the next few years even though home care and hospice is more cost effective, saving billions in Medicare expenditures. In 2009, the average home care visit cost $135.00 per day versus the average hospital visit which cost $1500 a day.   Preventive home health care saves Medicare and Medicaid billions of dollars per year.
